Ohio State Energy Partners makes annual philanthropic awards

Ohio State Energy Partners has provided more than $800,000 to programs through its 2021-22 philanthropic awards. The awards provide funding for proposals that align with Ohio States sustainability goals and support the continuation of successful initiatives or the development/implementation of new programs or research projects that continue the trajectory of meeting the goals. As part of its commitment to academic collaboration, OSEP contributes $810,000 annually to the university or affiliated philanthropic causes.

    Outreach and Engagement Grant Opportunities

    The Office of Outreach and Engagement is seeking applications from faculty and/or faculty-led teams for the 2022 Engagement Grants. Grants will be awarded at a maximum amount of $20,000 to support development of impact reports for programs, performances or exhibits; development of a public policy document or impact report; development or implementation of a program, performance, exhibition, or initiative based upon previous research, assessment, or public input; or enhance or expand a program that extends community access to the university, broadly defined.

    The Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD) is committed to serving a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Its Community Police Academy is a free four-week program designed to give eligible community members an idea of what its like to protect and serve on campus, while affording OSUPD yet another opportunity to learn first-hand about subjects and issues that matter to the university community.

    Ohio State, Rumpke promote circular economy research, teaching and practices

    A new collaboration between the Sustainability Institute at The Ohio State University and Rumpke Waste & Recycling will support advances in circular economy research, teaching and practices at a time when population growth in central Ohio is expected to bring new challenges to managing waste. The company will invest in the universitys zero-waste goal by funding expanded efforts to improve recycling and waste elimination on campus. Additional funds will support engineering research and teaching to unlock ways that artificial intelligence and new automation can improve the effectiveness of recovering recycled material from the waste stream. The collaboration is supported by a new gift of $1 million from the company.

    CETE selected to be Ohio State nominee for 2022 Kellogg and Magrath Awards

    The Center on Education and Training for Employment (CETE) has been selected to be Ohio States nominee for the 2022 C. Peter Magrath and W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Awards. CETE earned the nomination through a competitive selection process earlier this year. We are pleased to nominate CETE this year. The centers demonstrated engagement with the community, history of impact and publication of scholarship makes it an ideal nominee. said Ryan Schmiesing, vice provost for Outreach and Engagement.

    Knowledge, Power & the Ethics of Engaged Scholarship

    In January, the Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and the Center for Ethnic Studies hosted a webinar roundtable featuring interdisciplinary perspectives and firsthand accounts about the ethics of engagement and the politics of knowledge production. As universities are foregrounding and supporting engaged scholarship more than ever, it is crucial to take-up urgent questions about how to ethically go about such endeavors and related questions about knowledge production and its dissemination. Ethical engagements include practices that are multidirectional, going beyond simply extending the university into communities, or extractive models of outreach, engagement, and collaboration. Scholar-activists in fields such as Feminist Studies, Ethnic Studies, African and African American Studies, and Native and Indigenous Studies have long wrestled with the politics of knowledge production, asymmetrical power relations, and the ethics of engaged scholarship.
